Rare hornbill Bambara.
More often represented with Senoufo people, this one
results from Mali and was acquired in a village near Djénné.
To the ethnic groups Bambara and Sénoufo it represents
the original bird, the one that brought on earth the very first
seed.
It is impressive with its 210 cms in height and its some
70 kg. Wooden dense, slightly termited on the back part, it
seems inlaid with bauxite so the colour is red.
One finds the other animals of the Malian mythology, such the crocodile
which comes to decorate the wings of the bird Segen.
